Who we are
Enlace Legal is a corporate law firm based in Medellín, Colombia. We advise companies, their shareholders and their directors on the decisions that need legal backing: forming, contracting, growing, restructuring, complying and, when necessary, litigating.
We are called Enlace, the Spanish word for link, because that is what we do: we connect a company's real problem with the legal answer that solves it. We work across fourteen practice areas that coordinate with one another, because a company's matters rarely fit into just one.
We serve Colombian companies and foreign companies that operate or invest in Colombia. We work in Spanish and English.
How we work
- We understand the business before we give an opinion
- Legal advice that ignores how the company works is of no use. We start with the decision the client has to make and with what is at stake.
- We answer with options, not with a catalog of risks
- Every opinion ends in a path: what to do, in what order, at what cost and with what risk. The client decides with complete information.
- We speak plainly
- We write so that management and the board understand. Technical language is used when necessary and explained.
- We meet the deadlines we agree
- We set deadlines when we take on a matter and give advance notice if anything changes. We reply to communications the same business day.
- One matter, one person in charge
- Every engagement has a responsible lawyer who knows the whole file and coordinates the other practice areas whenever the matter requires it.
Standards
These are the rules we operate by. They apply to every lawyer at the firm and to the third parties who work with us.
- Conflicts of interest
- Before accepting an engagement we check that there is no conflict with current or former clients. If there is one, we disclose it and decline the matter, unless the parties give informed consent where the law allows it.
- Confidentiality
- Client information is protected by professional privilege and by confidentiality agreements with all staff. We never use one client's information for the benefit of another.
- Anti-money laundering
- We know our clients before onboarding them and apply a self-control and risk management system for money laundering and terrorist financing (SAGRILAFT), in line with the rules of the Superintendence of Companies.
- Transparency and business ethics
- We neither pay nor accept bribes or gifts. We have a business transparency and ethics program and an ethics line open to clients, suppliers and employees.
- Information security
- Files are kept in systems with access control, encryption and backups. Personal data is processed in accordance with Colombian Law 1581 of 2012 and our data protection policy.
- Fees
- We agree fees in writing before starting: hourly, by stage or as a fixed amount, depending on the matter. There are no charges the client has not approved.
How we are organized
The firm is organized by practice areas. Each area has a responsible lawyer who coordinates the work and answers for its quality. A firm committee reviews the most complex matters and decides on conflicts of interest, client acceptance and professional standards.
Matters that cut across several areas are handled by a team assembled for that engagement, with a single person responsible to the client.
